Associated Vertigo Titles: Sandman. iZombie

Mike Allred began his career as a radio host before pivoting to cartooning in the late 1980s. His first work Dead Air, for Slave Labor Graphics, loosely followed his stint as a radio host. He would continue to work in independent comic books in the early 90’s and create his most famous Character Madman in 1990.

His work would eventually show up in Vertigo Comics in Sandman #54 a part of the World’s End storyline, but he would not have his own Vertigo book until 2010 when he would partner with Writer Chris Roberson for iZombie.

With iZombie, Allred and Roberson were able to tale the story of a Grave Digger Gwen Dylan who had to eat the brain once a month to keep from losing her memories and intelligence. Though the book only last 28 issues, it gained strong praise in the comicbook press and even was nominated for two Eisners. Shortly after it’s launch, it was auction as a show on the CW network.

After the ending of iZombie, Allred would go on to work at rival Marvel Comics on a number of projects including FF, a Fantastic Four miniseries and a relaunched Silver Surfer book, with Writer Dan Slott.
